The City of Sheldon, Iowa is seeking candidates for the position of police chief. Sheldon is a thriving and family friendly community of 5,512, located in O’Brien and Sioux Counties, along the Floyd River. Requirements
Education Requirements: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. The City may consider a combination of training, education and experience in lieu of a degree. Experience: Progressively more responsible experience in police work, which should include experience in supervision and/or management of personnel and job-related tasks. Salary and Benefits: The police chief is an FLSA exempt position Salary: Negotiable DOQ; current salary range is $90,000 – $101,000 DOE Generous benefit package including: paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, Iowa Public Employee Retirement System (IPERS) contributions, group health, life insurance, and flexible health/dependent care spending plan contributions. Moving expenses Certification: Candidates must have a valid Iowa driver’s license, be able to obtain an Iowa Professional Permit to Carry Weapons, and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy ILEA | Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. The successful candidate (if non-Iowa Certified) must pass a physical agility test, cognitive exam (POST test), psychological examination (MMPI – II), physical examination, and drug screen. Residency: The City requires the successful candidate live in the city limits within a reasonable amount of time.
