Requirements

Education Requirements: Education or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university within the area of law enforcement or related field. Experience: Extensive experience in police work, must have a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience or a management role within law enforcement. Salary and Benefits: The police chief is an FLSA exempt position Salary: Negotiable DOQ; salary range is $95,000 - $120,000 Generous benefit package including: paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, Municipal Fire and Police Retirement System (MFPRSI) contributions, group health, dental/vision, life insurance, and flexible health/dependent care spending plan. Certification: Candidates must have a valid Iowa driver’s license, be able to obtain an Iowa Professional Permit to Carry Weapons, and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy ILEA | Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. The successful candidate (if non-Iowa Certified) must pass a physical agility test, cognitive exam (POST test), psychological examination (MMPI – III), physical examination, and drug screen. Residency: While the City encourages residing within the city limits, if residence is outside of city limits a thirty-five (35) minute response time is required.
