WATERLOO POLICE OFFICER RECEIVES AWARD

WATERLOO POLICE OFFICER RECEIVES AWARD

01/17/2014

Waterloo Police Officer Kenneth Schaaf was honored as Team Member of the Year for 2013 during Monday night’s city council meeting. Officer Schaaf received the award for keeping a man from bleeding to death following a March stabbing.

Officer Schaaf was one of the first people on the scene after a 34-year-old male was stabbed in his lower torso. Officer Schaaf used direct pressure to slow the bleeding and keeping him conscious until paramedics with Waterloo Fire Rescue arrived a short time later.

Director of Safety Services, Dan Trelka, said paramedics said Anderson likely would have died before they arrived had Officer Schaaf not taken the quick action he did. Officer Kenneth Schaaf has been with the Waterloo Police Department since 2009 and is currently assigned to Watch II patrol.
