Sioux City Police Saddened by death of Sgt. Jason (Jay) Fleckenstein
The Sioux City Police Department is saddened to announce the death of one of our own. Sgt. Jason (Jay) Fleckenstein was found deceased in his residence today by fellow officers of unknown causes.
Sgt. Fleckenstein was a 17 year veteran of the police department having worked in numerous assignments including Uniform, Investigations and most recently was in charge of the departments canine program. This assignment likely brought him the most satisfaction and joy. Jay thoroughly enjoyed explaining the program and giving demonstrations to a wide number of children and community groups. He was involved in numerous activities within the department which again allowed him to develop relationships with citizens through his program. Countless school aged children know Jay personally and will feel the loss.
Jay was a consumate professional dedicated to his calling as a police officer. His career included many letters of commendations and awards. He was truly an officers officer and will be missed dearly by his colleagues and peers.
Our condolances go out to his family, friends and brothers in blue. He will truly be missed.
