Capt. Harry G. Helgesen, (Ret. WPD) CHARLOTTE - Harry G. Helgesen, 71, of Charlotte, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on April 9, 2014, at the Robin Johnson Hospice in Dallas from complications of Alzheimer's.

Born in Valley Stream, N.Y. on Aug. 4, 1942, Harry was the son of the late Harry W. and Winifred Helgesen. Mr. Helgesen, a retired Captain of the Waterloo, Iowa Police Dept, proudly served his community for 35 years. He was affectionately called "Captain" by his family and friends.

Harry is survived by his sisters, Barbara VanSchaick and Carolyn Napolitano of Charlotte; and brother, Christopher (Wendy) Hel-gesen of Massapequa, N.Y. Mr. Helgesen is also survived by his grand-nephew Lucas and grand-niece Chloe who he spent much of his time with as well as several nieces and nephews.
