Gerald F. "Jerry" Herburger, age 85, of Dubuque, IA, passed away peacefully at home at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.
Gerald F. "Jerry" Herburger, age 85, of Dubuque, IA, passed away peacefully at home at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. To honor Jerry's life, funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at St. Joseph Church, 10270 Key West Dr., with Rev. Michael J. Podhajsky officiating. To celebrate Jerry's life, family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015, at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where a parish wake service will be held at 5:00 p.m. At the church there will be an honor guard by the Dubuque Police Department and full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown, IA.
Gerald was born on August 2, 1929, in Dubuque, IA, son of John and Frances (Fink)Herburger.
Jerry graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1948. He proudly served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. When he returned home from the service he went to work at the John Deere Dubuque Works. In 1956, Jerry went to work with the Dubuque Police Department, retiring after 32 years of service in 1988. He also drove trolleys and limos in the Tri-State area. Jerry married Jacqueline Thatcher on February 14, 1961, in Freeport, IL. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2013. Jerry was a long time member of St. Joseph Church in Key West. In his spare time he loved to buy and sell cars and appliances. Jerry was always very friendly and had a smile for everyone he met.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jacqueline; 2 sons, John and William Krabacher.
A Gerald F. "Jerry" Herburger memorial fund has been established.
