Frank C. Davis Jr., 89, of Ottumwa, died at 9:58 a.m. January 6, 2015, the Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
He was born December 5, 1925, in Indianola, Iowa, to Frank and Ellen Foote Davis Sr. Frank married Shirley Riley on July 15, 1972. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2013.
He graduated from Indianola High School in 1943, where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Frank joined the U.S. Navy in July of 1943, serving aboard two destroyers, one in the Atlantic and Mediterranean and then aboard one in the Pacific and China Sea. He went through the cities in Japan where the bomb was dropped and was discharged from the Navy in 1946.
He joined the Iowa Highway Patrol in 1948 and was stationed in Hampton, Oelwein, Red Oak and Ottumwa. He was lieutenant in charge of Post 14 in Ottumwa and retired from the IHP in June of 1981.
Frank was appointed Judicial Magistrate in July of 1981, serving until December of 1983. He was manager of Myers Manor & Condominiums from November 1, 1983, until retiring on July 1, 1987.
Surviving are his daughters, Pam (Steve) Jones of Red Oak and Janet Davis of Ottumwa; three stepchildren, Deanna Andrews of Hudson, Wisconsin, Dennis (Carla) Riley of Knoxville, Illinois, and Doug (Shelly) Riley of Ocala, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Max and Ray; two sisters, Kathryn Messner and Pat Allen; and father-in-law, Dean Siegrist.
His body has been cremated and no services are planned.
Private inurnment will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
