William Burl Foster, Jr. passed away Friday, October 16, 2015, at the Banner Hospice in Sun City West, Arizona.

Bill was born in 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa to Burl and Hattie (Harper) Foster. He graduated from Des Moines East High School in 1949 and married Audrey Jean Shreffler in 1952 at the Grant Park Christian Church. Bill and Audrey had twins, Thomas "Tom" and Anthony "Tony" in 1956.

Bill joined the Des Moines Police Department in 1954 and retired in 1987 after 33 years of service. His duties at the department ranged from traffic cop, to detective, to captain, and he also spent time as assistant chief. Bill retired from the force as a captain.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey; son, Tony (Carol); sister, Martha (Larry); grandsons, Matt (Angela) and Duane (Heidi); and great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Riley, and Mackenzie. Bill was preceded in death by his son, Thomas; mother, Hattie; father, Burl; brother, Dean; and sister, Pauline.

Bill will forever be remembered for his great sense of humor, patriotic passion, and Hawkeye fever, but most importantly his love and devotion to his wife Audrey and family.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St Des Moines, Iowa.
