Franklin D. Neilson passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at Trinity Bettendorf.
DAVENPORT — Funeral services for Franklin D. Neilson, 82, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 26. The family will greet friends 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the mortuary. Mr. Neilson passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at Trinity Bettendorf.
Franklin Delano Neilson was born Sept. 1, 1933, in Iowa City, the son of Chris and Myrtle (Fulton) Neilson. He married Mardell Steinhagen on March 2, 1956, in Davenport. He worked as a police officer for 28 years. For 15 of those years, he took pride in serving as a motorcycle patrolman, retiring on Feb. 1, 1994, after 28 years of service.
Franklin served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer during the Korean conflict. He served on the auditing committee for the Davenport Police Credit Union, and was a member of the Davenport Police Association. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, Iowa Hawkeyes basketball, the Chicago Bears and was a firearms enthusiast. He most especially enjoyed spending time with his growing family.
Survivors include his wife, Mardell; his children, Gail (Jay) Bloomer, Treasure Island, Fla., Bradley (Peg) Neilson, Davenport, Connie (Michael) Ray, Bettendorf, and Brian (Carman) Neilson, Davenport; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and three more on the way. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert Neilson, Rock Island, and Harold Neilson, Moline; and sister, Arleen Klindt, Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Stella Lefler and Violet Duncan.
