Donald E. Major, age 72, of Council Bluffs, passed away February 26, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha.
Don was born March 3, 1944, in Council Bluffs, to the late Tony and Ruth (Engebretson) Major. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1962. Don married Kristina Mathews on March 20, 1972, in Council Bluffs. He was a member of the Council Bluffs Police Department for 30 years, retiring in 1999 as a Lieutenant and also drove funeral escorts. Don’s passion outside of work was participating with the Black Powder Rendezvous’s.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his nephew, Paul Larson.
Don is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kris Major, of Council Bluffs; daughters, Melanie (David) Washburn, of North Glenn, Colo., Nancy (Dave) Asmus, of Thornton, Colo.; sons, Michael (Mara) Major, of Cheyenne, Wyo., William Major, of Council Bluffs; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; sister, Toni Fehr; brothers, Garlyn (Jackie) Major, Merlyn (Carolyn) Major, all of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation, Saturday, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. The family will direct memorial contributions.
