Richard Dennis Brewer
May 11, 1945 - November 13, 2017

Richard D. Brewer, 72, passed away at his home in Ankeny on November 13, 2017, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was born May 11, 1945, in Des Moines, Iowa, son of Truman and Helen Brewer.

Richard retired from the Des Moines Police Department after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Des Moines Police Burial Association and the Des Moines Chief of Police Association. 

Richard enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his loved ones.

Richard is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters, Ronda (Brent) Hoyle and Renee (Jim) Courtney; stepchildren, Maria Fontana and Tony (Kristine Gleason) Fontana; grandchildren, Doug (Becky) Hickle, Tyler Courtney, Caitlynn Courtney, Ava Fontana, and Addison Fontana; great-granddaughter, Emma Hickle; siblings, Karen (Larry) Crane, Marvin (Nicki) Brewer, and Kim (Mike) Kinney. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. A private burial will be held at Glendale Cemetery.
