Bob Kinseth

Bob Kinseth, 83, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Grinnell with Pastor Daniel Rinehart officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery northeast of Grinnell. A reception will be held at the Elks Lodge in Grinnell.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and his family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A service to share reflections of Bob’s life will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home.

Robert D. Kinseth was born the son of Delmar and Thora (Lomen) Kinseth on December 17, 1937, in Ottesen, Iowa. After living in Ottesen, Bode, and West Bend, Bob graduated high school from Titonka, Iowa in 1955. He then served four years in the United States Air Force.
In 1959 he married Delores Stroebel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona, Iowa. They had two children, R. Scott and Lynette. Bob worked as a meat manager for Super Valu in Algona and New Hampton before joining the Iowa Highway Patrol in 1965. After living in Marengo for one year, they moved to Grinnell, Iowa where they resided for most of their lives together.
Bob was a people person. He never knew a stranger. He especially loved his family. He very seldom missed his children or grandchildren’s school activities. He loved to trap, play slow pitch softball, and go fishing. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, a life member of the Elks, and was Scout leader for Cub pack and Boy Scout troop #347.
He is survived by his wife, Delores of 62 years; son, Scott (Diane) Kinseth of Independence, Iowa and Lynette (Brian) Benda of Toledo, Iowa; five grandchildren, Katie (Brennan) Drew, Ashley (Peyton) Huinker, Justin Kinseth, Dr. Kyle Benda, and Megann Kinseth; four great grandchildren, Emerson and Aileen Drew, and Avery and Ryann Huinker; a sister, Rachel (Wayne) Senne of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janice (Carl) Ludwig.
