Richard Wayne Davis, 82, of Knoxville, Iowa passed away on December 10, 2023. There will be a private burial with military honors at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 3, 1941, to Wayne and Edna (Halverson) Davis. Richard joined the U.S. Army in 1958 and proudly served his country until 1961. While in the Army, he served in Japan and Hawaii. Following his time in the military, Richard joined the Des Moines Police Department, where he served for 27 years. He was the armorer for the department and served several years on the Governor’s 20 pistol team. Richard was an expert marksman and won countless awards. He was an instructor at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Richard then went on to become a U.S. Marshall for Iowa’s 6th Southern district for 10 years. Richard was an avid outdoorsman, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Richard was united in marriage to Marie Andre and to this union two children were born, Kailei and Meko. They later divorced and he married Nelva Jean Jones.

Richard is survived by his sister, Dianna VanZee of Waukee, Iowa; daughters, Kailei Hogan of Homewood, Alabama and Meko (Frank) Martin of Knoxville, Iowa; grandchildren, Colt (Lia) Hogan of Homewood, Alabama, Dustin (Jenny) Hogan of Johnston, Iowa, Eric Ferber of Lamoni, Iowa, and Abby Ferber (Taylor) of Ankeny, Iowa. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Conor Hogan, Sophia Hogan, Gunner Ferber, and Scarlette Ferber Stinson; and is surely missed by his girl “Louie” the pug.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne Davis and Edna (Charles “Pop”) McCurdy; and his sister, Deloris Starcevich.
