Charles R. Gries
September 18, 1942 - February 16, 2025

Charles Gries, 82, of Donnellson and formerly of Fruitland, IA passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 11:20 AM at his daughter’s home surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 18, 1942 in Grant Center, IA to Richard and Pearl Martz Gries. Charles was almost three years old when his father was killed in WWII. After his fathers death his mom married Orville Heck whom became his Dad. On August 13, 1960 he married Donna Ryan in Onawa IA and she passed away on January 11, 2014. Charles was a draftsman at Stanley Consultants and then in 1980 became a police officer for the city of Muscatine, retiring in 1995. He and Donna enjoyed traveling and made it to almost every state. He enjoyed fishing, boating and watching birds. Charles also was a very talented painter.

Survivors include two sons, Richard (Roxanne) Gries of Hewitt, TX and Robert (Jolene) Gries of Muscatine; two daughters, Rhonda (Doug) Dusenberry of Forsythe, MO and Cheryl (Rodney) Languell of Donnellson; ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Judy (Roger) Bagley of Trenton, MO and Rosy (Mike) Griffin of Princeton, Mo; two brothers, Bill (Peggy) Heck of Princeton, MO and David (Brenda) Heck of Gillman City, MO; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his fathers, his mother, wife and a grandchild, Tristan Gries.

Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 11 AM at Mulford Church, 2400 Hershey Avenue, Muscatine. Burial will be in Island Cemetery in Fruitland, IA.
