Robert "Bob" Steinmann

February 25, 11950 - May 26, 2025

Robert Charles Steinmann, 75, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on May 26, 2025, at Harmony of Dubuque following a six-month battle with esophageal cancer.

Bob was born February 25, 1950, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Jeanette (Redman) Steinmann.

Bob graduated from Clinton High in 1968, then went on to University of Dubuque, graduating in 1972. Bob joined the Dubuque Police Department in 1973. He started out walking the beat as a patrolman in downtown Dubuque. He retired from the police department in 2001 after 28 years serving his community.

Bob married Colleen (Mellon) on October 1, 1971. He was a proud Dad to Kerry (Steinmann) Robert Preece of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Ben Steinmann (Kate) of Breckenridge, Colorado, and Courtney (Steinmann) Aundra Robinson of Douglasville, Georgia. He felt very blessed when grandchildren Talia and Micah Robinson were born into our little family.

Bob lived a big life and enjoyed many hobbies through the years. He was a member and past president of the Dubuque Chapter of the Izaak Walton League and the HOG Chapter of Dubuque. He was an avid pool player and was known as Cue Doctor by those whose cues he repaired. He could often be found at a soccer field and was a member of the Dubuque Soccer Club. He was known as Mr. Bob to the players he helped coach over the years. Bob loved to travel. He and Colleen made a couple of trips to the United Kingdom where he enjoyed a full English breakfast and a whiskey in the pubs. He and Colleen also racked up thousands of miles traveling to visit all three children.

Remaining to cherish Bob’s memory are David (Leah) Steinmann of Clinton, Iowa, sister-in-law Maurine (Mellon) and Ken Harris of Bellevue, Iowa, and brother-in-law David (Mary) Mellon of Davenport, Iowa. Also, nephews and niece and their families.

There will be no memorial service. Instead, we would like you all to raise a glass to Otto, Sugar Bear, Cue Doc, Mr. Bob, or Bob (however you knew him). Continue to share the stories.

Memorial donations in Bob’s memory may be directed to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America in honor of his grandson Micah Robinson or Hospice of Dubuque,

Bob and his family would like to thank the many special friends who checked to see how he was doing the last few months. Special thanks to forever friends Jim, Deb, and Alice Oleson for a lifetime of memories. We also sincerely appreciate his friend Adam Thomas for his assistance during this time. And a heartfelt appreciation for the nurses at Hospice of Dubuque, especially Sasha and Shay, for their comfort and caring during the last part of his journey.
