ISPA 2023 ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Plans for the 91st Annual ISPA Conference at the Hyatt Regency (300 E 9th St, Coralville, IA), on October 9th – 11th, are wrapping up. Local #16 Iowa City members are working hard to create an exceptional conference you will not want to miss.

On Monday the conference will get started with the golf tournament at Brown Deer Golf Course, shotgun start at 10:00 am. Later that evening after stuffing yourself with some delicious BBQ, make sure to get in on the Bags Tournament on the hotel patio (behind the lobby). No need to register for the bags tournament--just show up.

Once again, this year the conference will feature multiple educational programs.

PURPLE HEART AWARD NOMINATION

The Iowa State Police Association Purple Heart Award was developed in 2013 for the purpose of honoring extraordinary Iowa peace officers who have been seriously wounded or killed in the line of duty as a result of a combat incident.

The Purple Heart award is granted to any sworn Iowa peace officer who has been seriously, critically, or fatally injured in the performance of law enforcement duty. In addition, this award may be conferred if an injury was averted by the wearing of body armor. This award will be given in all cases resulting in line of duty death, but will otherwise be limited to those cases involving an attack by an assailant or the performance of an act of valor.

The 2023 Purple Heart Award will be presented to one recipient at the 91st Annual Iowa State Police Association Conference in Iowa City on Tuesday evening October 10th, 2023.

Proposed Amendment to ISPA By-laws

Attached (HERE) you will find the proposed amendment to the By-laws of the Iowa State Police Association.

The amendment to the By-laws calls for an increase in membership dues. The proposed amendment would raise dues for active members still working from $40 per year to $50 per year. Members who are retired, Retired Active members, would see their dues go from $30 per year to $35 per year. In addition, it is proposed to raise the Paid-Up-Active membership payment from a one-time payment of $200 to $250.

The amendment(s) will be voted on at the upcoming Conference in Iowa City, October 9-11, 2023. This notification of proposed amendments is required by the By-laws and Articles of Incorporation. Results of the vote will be published in the Iowa Police Journal e-newsletter. Feel free to contact any board member or myself with any questions.
